Excellent reviews for Casas reds
Two of our wines were recently reviewed by renowned international wine expert, Robert Parker. Both wines scored extremely well, with the 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon scoring 91, and the 2001 Shiraz (yet to be released) scoring 89 - 91. More detail of Robert Parker's rating system can be found on his web site, but a wine in the 90 - 95 range is "An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character."

Below are the reviews quoted directly from the Robert Parker site*.

1999 Cabernet Sauvignon
An immensely impressive effort, the 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon (600 cases produced) was aged 26 months on oak, of which one third was new. Made from a microscopic one to one and a half tons of fruit per acre, it admirably conceals its lofty 15.7% alcohol. A dense purple color is followed by sweet aromas of smoky blackcurrant intermixed with mineral, earth & licorice scents. Full-bodied yet impeccably balanced, this is a Cabernet Sauvignon on steroids. Not surprisingly, the owner, John Casas, is a huge fan of Penfolds Grange. Look for this 1999 for 10 - 15 years. Interestingly, as the wine sat in the glass, a minty/eucalyptus character emerged. Anticipated maturity 2005 - 2016.

2001 Shiraz
The 2001 Shiraz exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as abundant quantities of blackberry fruit, good opulence and seamlessness, and loads of fruit and glycerin. It should be close to outstanding when released later this year.
